Why Led Zeppelin Sucks
OK, that's not true but it certainly got your attention. You're here reading, aren't you?
Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" definitely is a classic work that sits atop the pantheon of rock songs that will last forever. Nobody would deny it is a singular work of art. I love that song.
However, I was realizing today, that after listening to nearly an entire album, that they are perhaps the most overrated band of all time. That is to say, they are very talented, but people rate them way past what they deserve. They have 2, maybe 3, standout songs on a good album. People talk as if they're unequalled and I disagree. "Kashmir" is great, so is "Stairway" but a lot of their stuff is, quite frankly, throwaway.
The Rolling Stones have (on their older albums) more good songs per album. The oeuvre of the Stones, Beatles, and even Elvis is much better. I think Zeppelin's oeuvre pales in comparison.
For example, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" has more good songs on it than all of Zeppelin's albums put together, yet many people claim Led is better. I disagree. You can all hate me for this, but I had to say it.

wow! i couldnt agree with you more, im glad to see someone has the balls to finally take a stand and prove that led zeppelin are not "the gods of rock." that so many people have claimed them to be. but dont get me wrong, i really do appreciate some of their later songs but their early songs seemed reptetative and the lyrics were mostly based on women and makin love(not that i dont mind women or makin love, its just not something people in the real world can relate to.) Pink Floyd on the other hand, experimenting with synthesisers and producing DSOTM, an album that deals with real life issues that most people can relate too. which is why it was one of the most influental albums in rock history and stayed on the charts for over 10 years.
Thanks for posting. I can't believe anyone bothered to agree with me. I was expecting flames.
I disagree that people can't relate to makin' love. I think many people can but it isn't their entire existance.
I wish you weren't anonymous :)

i dont think you guys really listen to led zeppelin, or watch much of their live stuff. i think you all read too much rolling stones magazine. i dont understand where you are coming from. name a band that has what zeppelin has. The greatest rock voice of all time. a loud powerful drummer. one of the greatest most complete guitarists of all time. and a multi-talented bassist, who by the way is the most under-rated disrespected musician ever. you guys need to give them the respect they deserve. they wouldnt be thought of as rock gods if they werent rock gods. and about the pink floyd comment. the only people that liked pink floyd were stoners who listened to experimental music while they experimented with drugs. then people started to realize that pink floyd was a great band. so no one can say that they were a pink floyd fan from day 1. why dont you all just go out and buy "when the west was won" watch the whole thing. and tell me you didnt shake your butt to at least 90% of the songs. my name is jesse graham i am 17, i live in new york, only a few hours fromwhere woodstock 1969 took place, and i love led zeppelin
Hey, at least you have an opinion and can express it halfway intelligently. I totally disagree with you, but that's cool. You can have your opinion and I can have mine. :)

im comming from austin texas, and every other tool that walks around my highschool has a led zeppelin t-shirt that their mom got on sale at target. the music really attracts the "poser" crowd and im not going to be a part of it, of course i was a while back and then i actually started paying attention to the songs they played. I recieved Led Zeppelin "II" (btw its so creative that they didnt name their first 4 albums...) for christmas thinking i was going to have a "total badass experience" with some old rock that no one was listening to at my middle school. to my suprise, i could really only enjoy listening to Heartbreaker and that one that came after it. i hated every other song on this CD and i was so dissapointed from what i heard on the radio. (ive never read or even picked up a copy of Rolling Stone so these are entirely my opinions) now, everyone has their personal prefrence when it comes to music and i just couldnt stand Robert Plants Orgasmic outbreaks in the middle of songs so you can make sure hes still breathing. again the lyrics never really dealt with a specific issue that people could agree with or relate to.
women women women is about all i hear in a led zeppelin song and to be honnest... i dont care about your baby and how she calls you another guys name when your having sex.
if you think the "only people who listen to pink floyd were stoners" then tell that to the 35,000,000 people who have bought dark side of the moon and the 8,000 people who buy it every week. they were the first to use the synths and they were the best at using them. they spent countless hours recording music but managed to release way more albums than zeppelin did.
i sure hope your not mekimirme...
First, to be clear, I don't hate Led Zeppelin because I do, in fact, like them. I just said they're way overrated.
As for Pink Floyd, I wish to point out that Dark Side of the Moon holds the record for the most consecutive weeks on the top 100 best-seller album chart where it sat for 13 straight *YEARS*. Look it up. Add up all of Led's together and see what you get. Yawn.

well dark side of the moon has sold an estimated 35,000,000 albums world wide
acording to wikpedia.com and The wall has sold and estimated 23,000,000 albums in america, led zeppelin album with guy holding sticks... sold an estimated 22,000,000 albums in america according to the guiness book of world records 2004. one million is a pretty big number.
tell that to the 35,000,000 people who have bought dark side of the
^not true.. get ur facts straight buddy
and also.. i'm not dissing pink floyed of anything but i really dont think they wer that great. i've been around long enough to see them live.. great concert and all but there are deffinitly better.the who.. queen.. you name it. The Absolute BEST live act i've ever sceen was Led Zeppelin. i saw them 3 times (LA fourm 72,75,77) if you think zep is overrated then u really need to listin to "how the west was one" or "BBC sessions" or, rent the Dvd and watch the Royal albert hall show. (im not going to recomend "the song remains the same")i Gaurentee you will be stunned. also, compair the live versions to the studio versions.
"achillies last stand" has a huge amount of guitar overdubs. (10 i think) the fact that jimmy could play that song live is amazing.
as someone earlyer said.. "there rock gods for a reason." also the T-shirt thing.. i cant stand it eather.. i see so many people ALWAYS wearing the exact "led zeppelin united states of america tour 77'" shirt and it piss me off because half the kids don't even listin to zep ir any of there live stuff. im sick of people saying things like "zep is ok.. they dont have any good songs"
people who say things like that ovbiously have only heard the super popular ones like stairway to hevan, Whole lotta love and kashmir...
and person who only has led zeppelin 2... you ovbiously havent listened to all the songs.. try listioning to one and IV and presence and Physical graffiti.. all of those albums are 'heaver'
finnaly... if you think they're not creative than u haven't heard their music... they are soo incredibly creative its amazing. if you dont see the creativity than you probably dont play any insturments... so you wouldent understand the musicality of it.
ive played trombone for 4 years, guitar for 1 year, i can play bass, and i am learning to play piano.
my facts are straight buddy, wikpedia.com doesnt lie and it can be found on other sources aswell. pink floyd is probably the greatest live band. watch some of the wall tours, In the Flesh, or pulse .they really added depth to their stage shows with the lasers, since the late 60s they always added depth to their stage preformance.
led zeppelin are rock gods for a reason, some kid saw a cadillac comercial and told his friends to drop the linkin park and slipknot and add 5 led zeppelin songs on his ipod.
dude, I'VE SCEEN PINK FLOYD LIVE, they were all about the stage preformence itself, not the music.
the lasers were really more of a gimmick than anything else.
led zeppelin on the otherhand, focused on the music, which rocked. shure by 77' they had lasers too but the show wasent about the lasers.
And by the way, zep had been rock gods WAY the hall before the cadilac commercial.
lol, ive played the guitar for 25 years, and violin for 30, and yes, led zeppelin was the best live act out there. i saw them at madison square garden in 70,73, 75, and 77
i also saw pink floyd. the music was OK at best, the sad thing is that they played all of there songs exactly like the studio verson. zep would put everything into there live act, jimmy page once said "led zeppelin on a mediocre night was better than any other bands best."
and its ture. they were masters at the insturments.
and did you even listen to ALL of led zeppelin II?
oh god, now im fighting off an army of burnouts...
ok pink floyd wasnt all about the stage preformance, their music always went beyond everything led zeppelin did, listen to atom heart mother suite. you can count atleast 10 different (assuming you can count and identify an instrument besides a damn les paul on a light distortion) instruments in the first 3 minnutes, but the song goes on for 21 minnutes of led zeppelin ass kickage, i swear every instrument led zeppelin recorded with in all their songs is used in this song.
and to Mr. ive played x instrument for y years, ive heard led zeppelin live plenty of times, they played some of their songs a little faster (main difference from the recorded version ) while they danced and pranced around on stage. then bonham busts out an hour drum solo or as i called the extended intermission.
" jimmy page once said 'led zeppelin on a mediocre night was better than any other bands best.' "
well i see why he would say that, considering hes an uptight nancy boy and mabe because HES A MEMBER OF THE BAND... and people like you that heard that quote when they were in highschool live with it your whole life, it grows on you, and no matter how far people push you back youll still try to support it.
"and did you even listen to ALL of led zeppelin II?" i listened to atleast 2 minnutes of everysong, really couldnt get into the orgasms.
VH1's The Greatest: 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock
Thank you very much.
(Yes, Eric, this is still pissing me off. :> )
Sorry, but VH-1 has no business telling ANY fan of rock anything. VH-1 knows shit about rock. There are a number of authorities on Rock, but VH-1 has as much business commenting on Rock and Roll as does Jesse Helms.
Christ lads!I think you all need to cool it and stop acting like little girls.
To say Led Zeppelin are rock gods and Pink Floyd are not is stupid. It's the same if you reverse to argument.
THEY ARE DIFFERENT BANDS!!
Two of the best bands ever to play music together at that. No one actually cares how long you've played an insrtument! Are you in led Zeppelin? The T shirts are over done, super, I'm glad we agree, but I think you should think twice before actually trying to convince anyone that one band is better then the other.
ok i was in a pissy mood when i posted here and im sorry if i have offended anyone, i really dont hate led zeppelin as much as you may think but I still prefer pink floyd over most bands. anyways...
peace
what ever helps you sleep at night.....
Hey guys, first time posting. I've weighed all you've said, and you all have valid points. I do own a Led Zeppelin shirt (two actually- the 77 tour, and the black Stairway shirt), yet I do not consider myself a poser. Why? Because I am slowly but surely buying everything they have. I'm teaching myself guitar so i can maybe learn to appreciate both bands (Led Zep and Pink Floyd) musically. Of course they're two different bands. Pink Floyd is psychedelic-prog rock and Led Zeppelin is hard rock edging toward folk rock. Don't believe me? Listen to III. I think shirts are like bumper stickers. All you people who voted, would you be called a poser for voting for Bush or Kerry? No? Of course not, because you support them, as I support my bands, which also include the Doors and CCR, just to name a very slight few. You're right, I did notice Plant's over-emphasis on orgasmic, 'oh baby' sort of lyrics. But compare that to today's hip-hop, pop music and...I think you see that things never really change. Sex has always been a part of music. Just look at 'Elvis the Pelvis.' I take my music seriously. I'm building a vinyl collection because I feel like getting in touch with the era I missed out on. For instance, did you know that if you listen to Sgt. Pepper's on a vinyl player without auto-return, the band's gibberish at the end of 'A Day in the Life' goes on ad infinitum. I know people have different opinions. Sure, Pink Floyd used lasers a lot, particularly in the early years when LSD was prevalent. It wasn't until Barrett left that they really developed as a band. You can't tell me that Gilmour's guitar solo on 'Comfortably Numb' didn't blow you away. I didn't have the luck and good timing of ever seeing Pink Floyd live, but I did see an Australian Pink Floyd Tribute Band (which played for Gilmour at his 50th birthday) and they blew me away. I am 18 years old, and I live in Maine. Music is my life. I think people need to focus more on why the music is still remembered today, and not fight about what they did wrong, but what they did right.
Well i would have to say Led Zeppelin does not suck. IF you listen to their albums, or watch some of there in concert stuff, it doesn't look like they are even there to entertain you. There are 4 guys just playin music together, for their own enjoyment. Everything they do is a giant rock session. Jimmy Page has got to be the most versitile/agile guitar player ever. Robert Plant has a one of a kind voice. John Bonham, well just go see him play Moby Dick with his 20 minute drum solo and youll be sold. John Paul Jones is an underappreciated bassist who also plays one mean mandalin. I for one appreciate that raw music. Every song they have ever produced is a piece of art that no modern day artist can match. They are the gods of rock, with incorporating, blues, rock, pop, and everything into there music. Everything you hear today can be linked back to something Led Zeppelin has done. REST MY CASE.
When people say Led Zeppelin is the greatest band they are reffering to the talents they have. No one can match it. They have sold the second most albums in the world, right behind the beatles. Maybe the beatles have had more hits, but they have no where near the talents of that of led zeppelin.
To be honest I fink ur nt listenin2 da music!! every single song on the four symbols, II, I and Physical Graffitti is amazing. Led Zepp's worst was beta dan most pps best.
Just my opinion i hope u understand. Plz listen 2 some of da live stuff wich i fink no one cud disagree is pretty unbelievable.
fanku 4 reading this.
me.
is obvious that they are the gods of rock. No one has been able to reach that kind of sound...not even the best bands in rock history. Their concerts were the best, with excellent sound and performances which lasted at least 2 and a half hours. Plus they released 4 albums in only 3 years!! Without counting both american tours and the one in england.
I think people try to be original and talk them down...but there's no point in doing this. Everybody knows is the best band in the world.
I agree; Led Zeppelin are highly overrated; a lot of their best songs are outright stolen from various blues musicians (Muddy Waters, heck, even Joan freakin' Baez!) Even a band like Queen shows more originality than these guys: I'm still waiting for some old blues musician to sue the Freddie Mercury estate for stealing a song! "Killer Queen," perhaps?
(A few people have written me an asked why I have deleted some posts. It has NOTHING to do with whether or not I agree. However as soon as you resort to INSULTS, your post is deleted. Name calling, directed profanities, racial epithets, are all cause for deletion. Obviously, looking at the comments, I don't care if you agree, but you have to have some modicum of intelligence. My tolerance for anonymous posts is SIGNIFICANTLY less than signed posts.)
hey you should totally have this post like laminated and golded, cuz i have no idea what i am saying. Anyway, i like cheese, butter, crystal monkeys, more cheese, lots of pie, and stuff that i am makin up on my way. what were you ppl talking about again anyway??
You people obviously dont know jack about rock. Zep, Stones and Beatles ruled the golden age of rock. EVERY Zep song is a classic! My opinion, but its fact they have TONS of great material. You folks probably ate up the liberal-lie crap that punk ruled in 76 and 1977. My rear end. Zep was number 1 in 77', both live and in album sales. Punk only happened on the coasts, and didnt become mainstream until 93. AND GREENDAY SUCKS, so punk never really had the influence you think it did. Everyone knows Zep ruled. Get real and stop hating THE HAMMER OF THE GODS. John Bohnam would have lined up Jonny Rotten, Joe Strummer, Sid Vicious and slapped them like the idiots they were. I do like the clah and pistols, but they arent even in the same league as songwriters or performers.
man......if you can tell me ANY other band that has a hour or half hour of radio airplay everynight....likeZep has the "get the led out" on stations around the world.....then and ONLY then will you be able to talk about Led Zeppelin!
i happen to like some led zeppelin songs.they obviously did have a lot of talent. i guess they are kindve over-rated but they are good.i happen to like the bealtes cause they started rock and they lasted longer then anyone else.led zeppelin is good but beatles are better.the only thing i dont like about led zeppelin is robert plants singing and some lyrics.stairway to heavens lyrics are awesome though
Obviously none of you don't know shit about rock otherwise you'd would be making money posting your two cents on the web. So your pretty much the minority on the subject, while a millions of other fans with a deeper apprecation of the their art buy ther records and exault them in to rock immortality.
Ok, everyone that says Led Zeppelin is overrated, stop it! If they are highly rated, guess why? They're awesome!
some of the comments about led zep being over-rated are complete nonsense. the band itself included some of the greatest rock musicians of all time, and the sheer depth of their song-writing has never been equalled by any band! as for that rubbish about only a few songs on each album being good, get REAL man...every song on physical graffiti is awesome...in fact its far better than dark side of the moon, the wall, or any other pink floyd album. led zeppelin one is miles superior to piper at the gates of dawn, which was psychodelic nonsense. in my opinion, pink floyd were grossly over-rated. 200 million people cannot be wrong about zep, can they? and this crap about real life issues, and experimenting, and pink floyd producing a great/influential album (darkside of the moon)...is led zeppelin four symbols not an influential and great album? indeed it is...have pink floyd written a song as influential as stairway to heaven? i don't think so!
hmm, 200 million people can't be wrong? There have been some pretty 'wrong' things done in the name of various religions - easily more than 200 million people involved in that.
The number of people is irrelevant, if 200 million people see the same propaganda without anything to contrast it then they will probably believe it. Then it's just the opinions of a tiny few that 200 million have blindly accepted.
At the moment, there is such a 'Pro-Zep' culture that young people just accept that they were a Good Band who played Good Music.
Looked at objectively; their songs don't go anywhere, they're not particularly interesting, there's nothing to move you.
i'm too tired at 1:45 in the morning to read all of the posts but all of you who think zep is overrated are totally totally wrong. i actually would prefer it if they werent so popular but they deserve to be! the first person who replied to the article said that "women and makin love isn't something people in the real world can relate to." uhh it's not? sex is one of the most popular things people talk about. anyway, anyone who says dark side of the moon is better than all of zeps albums are high on crack. you guys need to get off your butts and listen to some zep songs OTHER than stairway and kashmir and black dog. most of their non-hit songs are their best and most underrated songs. you will never find a band more diverse than them i can listen to almost all of their songs and never get bored. and the thing is there is only one, and i repeat ONE song by led zep that sounds like another. Bron Yr Aur and Going to California. besides that, name me one song that sounds like another. you can't do it. led zeppelin is too diverse and too great to make any other songs sound like another of their own.
the person from austin texas is an idiot. he stopped listening to zeppelin because they attract posers. SO WHAT! as long as you're not a poser, that's what matters! not doing something because everyone else is doing it is just as bad as doing something because everyone is doing it. do what you like and what you want whether it attracts posers or is popular or not.
another thing to the austin texas guy. zep was way the heck better with the synths and just because they don't talk about issues people can relate to doesnt mean they suck. they were solely based off the blues and them black folk enjoy talkin about women got a problem with that?
another thing...ON AND ON AND ON about freaking DARK SIDE OF MY ASSCRACK. hours and hours of perfection on the album. whoopdee doo. that just shows why zep is so much better. jimmy page would record three solos for each song they played with a solo. he'd pick the one he liked best and that would be it as the final copy. no 80 hours of recording the solo to perfection. he did it 3 times and picked the one he liked best. end of story. and he still managed to play one of the greatest guitar solos of all time in Stairway to heaven but has many many other great guitar solos. but enough of solos i'm not big on solos i'm a rhythm guitarist but anyway. yes yes yes i guess i do respect Floyd for how much time they put in on dark side of the moon but the only thing is is that when you're playing live you don't have 80 chances to play the solo perfect. on the other hand led zeppelin was great in the studio and in my opinion even better live. probably my favorite live band right ahead of AC/DC
a bunch of you idiots comparing led zeppelin and pink floyd by how many albums they sold are just plain STUPID. you guys are freakin posers. who cares that the wall sold 1 million more albums than zep 4. 4 is my second least favorite zep album. get off of your asses people and start listening to the rest of zeps albums please unlike all the stupid posers out there.
this is like my 4th post in a row cause i keep scrolling down and keep seeing these ridiculously idiotic, ignorant posts by people.
btw i'm chris smith from lansing, michigan.
Any people who say Led Zeppelin is overrated are dead wrong. They are the most pure and perfect rock band of all time. All four of them are masters of what they do and they come together to make a band so marvelous that to say that they are overrated should be a crime punishable by law. Alot of people may think that they were bad people, but they werent. They are NOT satanists, that crap about playing stairway to heaven backwards and getting satanic messages is ridiculous. I've listened to that clip countless times and you can barley hear a couple things that a paranoid christian freak (nothing against christians) might interpret as a satanic message. and they arent druggies either you arent a true Led Zeppelin fan if you dont know what stairway to heaven is about. Its about a woman addicted to cocaine. "she's buying her stairway to heaven" has a very deep meaning that many people dont understand. The song is telling people not to do drugs. And with that I conclude my statement. All the members of Led Zeppelin are gods among men, and they should be treated as such.
-Logan Hockema
Damn right, Pink Floyd for example were heaps better, Where as Led Zeppelin just reached into the past of Black blues too borrow a riff to turn into there latest hit, Pink Floyd were looking forward using synths and layers and loops way before it was popular and easy to do, also most of Led Zeppelin's songs are overly long for the sake of being long, id hate to see how long one of there albums were if they made one during the CD era.
Jimi Hendrix was better and deserves the crown because he sounded nothing like anything before him with the guitar playing and effects, and pushed that sound mainstream.
PS. I like Led Zeppelin though.
While I could not agree with you more, at least you had the good taste to give Stairway to Heaven the respect it deserves. It is a breathe of fresh air to see someone who can critic work without the use of such atrocities as "they r teh sux of teh world and they are ghey."
With that being said, my opinion is that Zeppelin is the greatest band ever. They have done what no other band has come close to in the short 12 year span they existed. I know I'm starting to sound like the overexaggerators that you spoke of, but this is how I really feel. If I could only see one band live for the rest of my life, I would choose them over all others. Don't get me wrong, I like Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, The Beatles, and all other "Classic" rock (which, by the way, classic is the only kind of rock).
The reason I have so much respect for them is because I am a guitarist and know how much work it takes to come even close to Page's work. It has taken me 2 months to master Stairway to Heaven and I still skip on some parts because of it's difficulty. However, in comparison, I mastered some of the greater songs, including Black Bird from the Beatles, in less than half a month each.
pink floyd is the greatest rock band ever. Nothing's like it. It has a unique sound, clever lyrics, the most virtuous guitarrist ever, and the albums are all concept-albums. The floyd explored space rock, prog rock and created their own style. How can you compare this wonderful orchestra to a hard rock group that has 1000 clones?
Sorry, Led Zeppelin sucks. Back in college, my R.A. would blast Led Zeppelin and I would always hear that whiney, mollycoddled nancyboy's harpy voice. It was like someone created a beam of concentrated suck and aimed it straight at my wall, easily piercing through it as it had no anti-suck insulation. And I mean, what am I going to do? It's my R.A. Hell, he let us drink and smoke and whatever else we wanted, I'm not going to get on the man's bad side over some craptacular music. Now, Pink Floyd...Pink Floyd used synths, which helped pave the way for a lot of crappy techno glowstick ravers. Good job, Pink Floyd. A lot of Floyd is slow and boring and takes like hours to actually get somewhere (whereas Zeppelin would just be in a perpetual state of nowhere). Pink Floyd had interesting chord structures though, from what I have heard from them (albeit I haven't heard very much). Led Zeppelin stole a lot of chord structures. I remember when I showed one of my friends who loves Led Zeppelin some website that showed a list of all the songs Zeppelin ganked off of various musicians, he said "Yeah he stole them but they made them rock!!111!" It was rather disturbing because he's a valedictorian. So now I wonder how he got there. I mean using the same logic you can be like YEAH I CHEATED ON MY ACT"S BUT I ROCKED THEM SUCKAZ LIKE NO1 ELSE.
Fellas, there's a reason why both bands are overexaggerated. When you think about the 70s and 60s, can you REALLY name that many well known bands? Let's see there's Yes, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Rolling Stones, Black (or coloured for the politically correct) Sabbath, and the Beatles. And Yes and King Crimson aren't even that well known nowadays. So, giving the benefit of the doubt, that's only seven bands. Without said benefit, 5. Wow, five. That's not a big number fellas. So naturally people are going to have to cling to something. The 60s and 70s were a sort of lost period in America that had a lot hype to it. I guess that's what attracts all them youngbloods to it and they feel like they've missed out on something cool, so they try and hold on to it in the only way they can, through music. Music, the most popular of the aesthetics, and indeed very immortalized and mass produced. But for the colourful young rogue who stated, "Every song they have ever produced is a piece of art that no modern day artist can match," i beg to differ, good sir! There are a lot of very, very good bands out today. The problem is that many people like to play ignorant and are so content basting in their 30-40 year old musical liquids, that they don't even BOTHER to search for good music around today. Instead they just point at Brittney Spears and Linkin Park and bite their thumbs at it. That's great and all, but there were plenty of one hit wonders back in the 70s and 60s as well. So what am I really saying? I guess I'm saying that you lads and fellows should try and find out more modern music. You can only live in the past for so long and stubbornly shun every other type of music that comes your way. I mean, look at what happened with Japan. Guns are more effective than swords. Technology is a wonderful thing. Synths are better, guitars are better, production is better, everything in regards to music is better in the future. It's a fact. And you can't say ohhh well people just aren't the same now and therefore can't be a better musician. No, that's bullshit. Now to give you chaps a head start, I suppose I can list some modern bands and people that are inspiration, creative, and original: Dream Theater, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Opeth, Dillinger Escape Plan, anything by Nobuo Uematsu, Paco De Lucia, Murder By Death, Sondre Lerche, Elliott Smith (lots of Beatles influence there according to some people), and let's not forget LUDACRIS, the Bach of modern day music. Speaking of Bach, maybe you folks should listen to some music even older. Yes, I'm talking about Vivaldi, Bach, Purcell, etc. And what about some other stuff around the 60s and 70s. Leo Kottke? Michael Hedges? I mean you can't talk about being guitar virtuosos without giving them some credit. But whatever, if any of you have listened to me and are so cultured as to take your mind out of your 60-70 era loving ass and at least LISTEN to some of these mentioned people/bands (I gave a pretty wide variety), then I guess I didn't waste my time. Otherwise, I think I wasted as much time as I'd like to. I'm just sick of everyone talking about gods of rock and then you mention some modern musician or even one in the same era and they say, "Huh? Whatever pal Zep is the bestest ever. ZEP 4 LYF", I get moderately pissed. So don't be a dumbass.
Neil Peart > John Bonham.
We are comparing apples with oranges here. The appreciation of music, like with any other art form, is an entirely subjective matter. You either like what you hear, or you don't. The art either speaks to you or it doesn't. There's nothing wrong either way. Some people will prefer Pink Floyd to Led Zeppelin, and others will prefer Zeppelin to Floyd. It's all in what speaks to the listener; how they perceive it. No one can argue that Led Zeppelin had their own style, as does Pink Floyd. How can they really be compared?
My career is in the major concert industry and I'll you now that it is about who will sell the most albums and the most concert tickets.
So to objectively try to measure or compare the two, one can only look at the facts. Pink Floyd has sold 73 million albums in the US. Add Bob Dylan's 35 million total albums and you have 108 million, which is how many Led Zeppelin has sold. That means Led Zeppelin has only been out-sold by two artists: The Beatles, and Elvis Presley. #3 on RIAA's top US album sellers list, with Pink Floyd at #7, (and Bob Dylan at #42, in case you were wondering.)
So by popularity of the group reflected in album sales (where consumers put their money down) Led Zeppelin IS better, being the more popular of the two, than Pink Floyd. So what if apples are selling better than oranges? No need to get all worked up over it. If you want, go buy 35 million copies of Floyd's albums, to even the score.
I think that anybody that doesn't enjoy a Zeppelin song just knows that they are better then their favorite band they did more for rock then any other bad in the history of music they are the best of the best. How can a band that has the best guitarist in the world and that tought himself be bad. They just can't suck with the second highest record sales of all time. Pink Floyd is just for stoners and crackheads with no lives. Their is just no better band and their never will be, I am Ian Pass i am 14 and i love Zeppelin to.
I agree wiht the person that they appeal to the poser crowd. I should know- I used to be one of those posers! I bought most Zep albums but....I didn't realy like them that much, I was really looking for some rock credibility among my peers and brothers. And hey my brother even said to me one day when he decided maybe he'd outgrown them "if you think about it, not terribly good are they?" Oh you mean you didn't give it any thought before? Blind worship, that's a lot of what Zep is.
I love led zeppelin and think they are one of the best groups ever to hit the rocken roll seen. But they are a little over rated jimmy page is a great guitarer but not the worlds best you got to give that to jimi hendrix.pages is a great vocal list to. Boham and paul are some of the most underrated guys in the music seen for sure. And pink floyd is a great band david my be one of the bigest stoners ever to be in a band but he made some of the best guitar solos ever and waters is to me the best vocalest out there and he always will be to me.
Ok led zep is great but all those kids that wear shirts around of led zeppelin and most liekly just got them out of there dads closest or from wal mart can go to hell and take those shirts off.
pooooooooooooooooooo!
Led Zeppelin is the most influential hard rock band of all time and nobody can deny that. Comparing Zepp to Pink Floyd is like comparing apples to oranges,Led Zeppelin will remain rock Gods forever. You can hear their presence in just about every rock song you hear on the radio today. By saying they suck your just showing your musical ignorance!!
What do you mean, "even a band like Queen"? Queen had the best, most outrageous and awesome shows, they were all awesome instrumentalists and sang really phenomenally! Whoops, sorry, this is about Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. My apologies. But I was mad that someone dared to insult Queen. Anyway, back to the subject at hand: Pink Floyd was great. I really like Dogs and Brain Damage and other songs. I LOVE Led Zeppelin. Forget Stairway to Heaven (which I do love) what about Physical Graffiti? Night Flight, Bron-Yr-Aur, Houses of the Holy, Kashmir, Boogie with Stu? All great songs, and the twelve string on Over the Hills and Far Away, well, you can't possibly call that one "throwaway".
Then there were the songs you didn't understand: The Battle of Evermore, Carouselambra. They were still wonderful. Don't say Led Zeppelin made their songs too long, because Pink Floyd's "Dogs" was seventeen minutes.
Then there were the songs that made you want to cry (unless you have a heart of stone): Tangerine, That's the Way, Going to California.
They had songs that cheered you up: Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, Over the Hills and Far Away.
And when you got tired of all the hard rock songs, there was Down by the Seaside for easy listening.
Pink Floyd is a great band. Personally, I prefer Led Zeppelin. Each to her own, they say, but don't insult Led Zeppelin, because they were a phenomenal band.
Actually Down by the Seaside isn't easy listening, yes, I know that, but it is easy to listen to if for some weird reason you need a break from all the rockin' songs.
And to the person who wrote "women women women is about all i hear in a led zeppelin song and to be honnest... i dont care about your baby and how she calls you another guys name when your having sex."
That wasn't exactly proving your point. You obviously have listened to Heartbreaker more than three times to hear that. If you want to talk about how you dislike a band, try to be vague on what you know. If you don't like a band, how do you know a certain line from a song that isn't Stairway to Heaven?
And Queen was the most original band of the seventies and eighties. Killer Queen is not a blues song; what the heck are you talking about?
i am a zep fan, and do spend up to an hour each day listening to zeppelin music, 3 hours listening to other bands: stones, david bowie, beatles, hendrix, etc. but i think you cant rate a band like zeppelin until you really know their music... read the lyrics, find out why the piece was written, where it was written, things like that. and for a person to say that zep is overrated? sure, stairway gets to be a bore the seven thousanth time, but you gotta listen to some of their songs that just weren't as well known. ten years gone? great page work their, he recorded his guitar 14 times to get all of the sound in that song. dancing days? sure the song is a little weird for new zeppelin fans to listen to, but come on. great guitar work. paul-jones? check some songs like in the light. nice organs there. bonham? oh come on, moby dick a great one. of course the live version from how the west was one isn't his best playing. i was a beatles fan from the age of 4-11 till i bought a clapton album with some of the late cream, then that led to a hendrix, and that led to zeppelin.
i think i know why so many people do hate zeppelin though. late 70s came bands like sex pistols, the clash (by the way, the clash pronounced that if they ever saw another zeppelin album, they would hurl) and they just got the fucking punk rock theme going. zeppelin died so fast. it became offensive to say you liked them. now come on! they were doing just fine till shitty music came along. though for all of the loyal zep fans, i salute you. you gotta give credit to each member.
now hear this, i love pink floyd also. syd barrett? he's gotta be my number one idol with page in second. guy that started pink floyd? wonder why you never hear about him? he got the band started, then went insane. listen to floyds EARLY early albums, you'll hear some of syd on guitar. for true floyd fans, i advise you get syds album "wouldn't you miss me" it has some great floyd influences. but you gotta trully appreciate syd to like floyd. syd was before gilmore, ever wonder how gilmore got in? syd would go out on stage, and drench himself in marmalade, so when the lights shone down on him, it looked like he was melting. sometimes he would go out and not play a single note, or sometimes play a different song then the one that was being played at the moment. so they got gilmore and said "if syd doesn't play, you play for him"... so trully, appreciate the underated people also, such as syd and john paul-jones. he's got such an influence on the album "in through out the door." came in before studio times and added in extra keyboard parts.
i dunno, i just think that its okay to like floyd and zep... just you should like zep a little bit more :-)
I have to agree with the awesome persone above who I dont know at all! Have you watched them play guitar in a concert? its so cool! well I have nothing els to say .. thank you and good night
Led Zeppelin is amazing.
Pink Floyd is amazing.
It just depends on your mood at the time.
They are both so much better than so many rock bands, it doesn't even matter.
A true fan of rock music would love both of these bands.
They both played music that they liked to play and it really reflects on their albums.
They were both album oriented bands, and didn't realease very many singles. That is what made them both so great is that they didn't try to please the people, they just played music that they liked. Instead of arguing over Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, I think people should be more concerned about this incredibly horrible music that is coming out these days. If only there were more bands like Zeppelin and Floyd, In spirit, not in sound. Real musicians should know what I am talking about.
I agree that blind worship is a lot of what the Zeppelin crowd is about but that no way means the group itself bad. You can usually tell which 'fans' are genuine and which are simply poseurs by talking to them about why they like their music. In a sense, they are overrated and in a sense their less known songs are quite underrated. The songs that get extended radio play (Stairway to Heaven, Kashmir, Black Dog) are praised to death when they aren't even their best songs in my opinion. When I was about 14 years old I found a box of my Dad's old tapes. I found a tape that had a picture of the Hindenburg in flames, and being curious, I played it. Over the next few months I began to listen to it over and over again and the music seemed to get better and better with each listening. Soon I began to ask myself, "Why aren't some of these songs play on the radio?" Led Zeppelin's covers of 'You Shook Me' and 'I Can't Quit You' completely blew me away. Jimmy Page's wailing guitar, John Paul Jones soulful organ work and pounding basslines, John Bonham's hands of God drumming, and Robert Plant's emotional vocals. I was astounded at the sheer talent, musicianship, and soul that poured out with each note. I looked at the credits and found out that these weren't even their own songs yet they had somehow made it their own through their own special touch. I was hooked. Soon I began to discover other artists. Led Zeppelin was the sole reason why I got into Chicago Blues. After devouring their catalog I began to appreciate them even more. It was about this time that I began to read a few malicious postings about how Led Zeppelin stole their work. I began to think. I concluded that originality was only a portion of what a band great. A band can compose something out of this world yet it would still sound atrocious. Chords and lyrics can be stolen but there's one things that not as easily replicated - the performance. Led Zeppelin were the kings of improvisation. This is quite evident on Led Zeppelin - BBC Sessions. They could play several versions of the same song, at roughly the same length, but they could each sound radically different. Many of the songs on the two discs were unedited in front of a live audience, and though you can tell the band was nervous no note was thrown away. One thing Led Zeppelin was known for is trying their best not to disappoint their audience. They didn't want to be just a jukebox and thus alternate lyrics, arrangements, and added solos were thrown into the mix. Sometimes the live songs were superior to their studio counterparts (Thank You). The precious few footage of them performing in their early days shows just how hard they worked and how much talent they exerted. Many times you can see smiles upon their sweaty faces as they improvised song the audience knew by heart, excited when they entered new territory, unsure of how far they would take it but somehow they always pulled it off. It was evident that they were having fun, enjoying the music -something music should be about. It angers me when I see people criticizing an obviously talented hard working band, and it really angers me when people walk around claiming to be fans while they are oblivious to the actual music. If anyone would actually take the time and listen to their albums and watch their concert footage with all the soul being spit out onto the stage, you can easily conclude that Led Zeppelin they are much more than the pop culture icons they have become and that they are deserving of every good comment made.
Dave grohl on Led Zeppelin
(From RS 946, April 15, 2004)
Heavy metal would not exist without Led Zeppelin, and if it did, it would suck. Led Zeppelin were more than just a band -- they were the perfect combination of the most intense elements: passion and mystery and expertise. It always seemed like Led Zeppelin were searching for something. They weren't content being in one place, and they were always trying something new. They could do anything, and I believe they would have done everything if they hadn't been cut short by John Bonham's death. Zeppelin served as a great escape from a lot of things. There was a fantasy element to everything they did, and it was such a major part of what made them important. Who knows if we'd all be watching Lord of the Rings movies right now if it wasn't for Zeppelin.
They were never critically acclaimed in their day, because they were too experimental and they were too fringe. In 1968 and '69, there was some freaky shit going on, but Zeppelin were the freakiest. I consider Jimmy Page freakier than Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix was a genius on fire, whereas Page was a genius possessed. Zeppelin concerts and albums were like exorcisms for them. People had their asses blown out by Hendrix and Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, but Page took it to a whole new level, and he did it in such a beautifully human and imperfect way. He plays the guitar like an old bluesman on acid. When I listen to Zeppelin bootlegs, his solos can make me laugh or they can make me tear up. Any live version of "Since I Been Loving You" will bring you to tears and fill you with joy all at once. Page doesn't just use his guitar as an instrument. For him, it's like some sort of emotional translator.
John Bonham played the drums like someone who didn't know what was going to happen next -- like he was teetering on the edge of a cliff. No one has come close to that since, and I don't think anybody ever will. I think he will forever be the greatest drummer of all time. You have no idea how much he influenced me. I spent years in my bedroom -- literally fucking years -- listening to Bonham's drums and trying to emulate his swing or his behind-the-beat swagger or his speed or power. Not just memorizing what he did on those albums but getting myself into a place where I would have the same instinctual direction as he had. I have John Bonham tattoos all over my body -- on my wrists, my arms, my shoulders. I gave myself one when I was fifteen. It's the three circles that were his insignia on Zeppelin IV and on the front of his kick drum.
"Black Dog," from Zeppelin IV, is what Led Zeppelin were all about in their most rocking moments, a perfect example of their true might. It didn't have to be really distorted or really fast, it just had to be Zeppelin and it was really heavy. Then there's Zeppelin's sensitive side -- something people overlook, because we think of them as rock beasts, but Zeppelin III was full of gentle beauty. That was the soundtrack to me dropping out of high school. I listened to it every single day in my VW bug, while I contemplated my direction in life. That album, for whatever reason, saved some light in me that I still have.
I heard them for the first time on AM radio in the Seventies, right around the time that "Stairway to Heaven" was so popular. I was six or seven years old, which is when I'd just started discovering music. But it wasn't until I was a teenager that I discovered the first two Zeppelin records, which were handed down to me from the real stoners. We had a lot of those in the suburbs of Virginia, and a lot of muscle cars and keggers and Zeppelin and acid and weed. Somehow they all went hand in hand. To me, Zeppelin were spiritually inspirational. I was going to Catholic school and questioning God, but I believed in Led Zeppelin. I wasn't really buying into this Christianity thing, but I had faith in Led Zeppelin as a spiritual entity. They showed me that human beings could channel this music somehow and that it was coming from somewhere. It wasn't coming from a songbook. It wasn't coming from a producer. It wasn't coming from an instructor. It was coming from somewhere else.
I believe Zeppelin will come back and prove themselves to once again be the greatest rock band of all time. It will happen. They'll find someone to play the drums and I'll be right there, front row at every goddamn show. Then I could finally die a happy man.
WELL SAID DAVE!
Hmm,sounds like a whole bunch of teenies in here,,,
But the fact is that Zeppelin is a great influence on many many other bands, and another fact is that they are recieving the Polar price next year,Floyd isnt,,
Zep was the greatest "hard" rock band ever.
led zep is underrated over here in australia im the only one in my school who nows who led zeppelin are all the kids like hip hop and other stupid shit
Listen to the music you like. And don't give any of this shit about what other people are doing. How everyone and their mom has a Led Zep Shirt. If you're in it just to see what everyone else is doing, then you aren't a music lover. You're a follower. If you like Zep, then listen to them. If you don't, then don't. Although it is hard not to if someone is blasting it. I don't enjoy a blast of music I dislike either. Anyways, Zep hits the spot for enough people, and that's all that matters. If it annoys you that much, then you let other people control you. And that is why you are a follower (this post is getting kind of extreme, but it's OK, I'm in Berkeley). And let's not forget the original poster's point. That Zep is OVERRATED. Not that they suck as big of balls as Jenna Jameson. And I'd also like to tip my hat to the aussie above for listening to what he likes.
Thanks to last poster who actually READ the post. "And let's not forget the original poster's point. That Zep is OVERRATED. Not that they suck as big of balls as Jenna Jameson." I am amazed at how many people went off on rants unrelated to what I actually said. I still feel my point is valid. However as many people said, "listen to what you like." I listen to some Zep, it's just I find other groups more enjoyable.
To say Zeppelin has only "standout" songs is blasphemy.
Dazed & Confused, Communication Breakdown, You Shook Me, Ramble On, What Is And What Should Never Be, Since I've Been Loving You, Tangerine, Gallows Pole, Battle of Evermore, Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, The Ocean, D'yer Mak'er, No Quarter, Nobodys Fault But Mine, Achilles Last Stand, Fool In The Rain, In The Evening, In The Light, Trampled Underfoot..
That's only a moiety of the Zep catalogue and in my opinion, anyone of those songs can and have topped acts from The Beatles to 50 Cent (in 2003, how the west was won knocked the rapper out of the #1 spot).
You are doing a disservice to Zep by using Stairway and Kashmir as a platform for a band who was a spontaneous combustion of individual talent on stage.
I think The Beatles deserve the award for overrated band. They definitely contributed to the music industry but I hold them responsible for the pop industry gaining ground. They had no stage presence unless John Lennon bobbing his fruit cupped hair cut head gives you thrills.
The Stones are classic but Keith Richards is nowhere near Jimmy Page's talent.
As far as Elvis is concerned, I couldn't careless for him.
Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon album is incredible. However, Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd are two completely different bands on different levels. Both bands deserve respect for the amazing contributions they've made towards their genras of music.
Led Zeppelin, overrated? No .. unappreciated is more like it you troglodytes.
led zeppelin is the greatest band to walk the earth i maen its zeppelin
omg well led zeppelin is the greatest band in the world they rock more than pink floyd i mean i listen to pink floyd but led zeppelin just has so many more amazing songs then them, their songs are more creatative, ive read most of these and you guys saying led zeppelin is "overrated" you crazy because they rock. im only 14 but i know a lot of people who went to see led zeppelin in 77 and they said it was onw of the best events ever in their life i have a led zeppelin 77 shirt and i do not consider myself a poser because i have all led zeppelins cds and i listen to them more than any other band
if you also think led zeppelin isnt the greatest then look at that post by the erin person from VH1 because i think they know what they are talking about when they talk about music and rock, i dont liek that channel but if i do watch it when they have rock things on they are always right...
I remember reading a comment on the Rolling Stone magazine website that summed up how I feel about Led Zeppelin;
"I might actually like this band if everyone didn't overrate them so much. Just to piss people off I say that Black Sabbath is better"
Ok you guys this site is totally wrong in many ways, for 1 this is the only site by the way, and if you look at how many pro led zepplin sites there are all the facts are wrong. Ok I admit that not all of there songs are great but there is no album that has absolutley 100% awesome songs on it. Hey i mean people are still buying tons of led zepplin cds and they are competing with new bands still! And if you can challenge one other band with led zepplin to be the god of rock you must have issues because they did alot of stuff that not many people did at that time. Even if LED ZEPPLIN isnt the holy rock ban i have to say as a drummer that john bonham was a hella tight kickin ass drummer and he is one of the best drummers of all time. Well thats all i have to say but other than that this is a good site for this topic
led zeppelin isnt overrated buddy. theure the greatest band ever. kashmir and stairway are both good songs, but there are more such as... dazed and confused, communication breakdown, how many more times, whole lotta love, heartbreaker, out on the tiles, black dog, rock n roll, the ocean,no quarter, houses of the holy, and ten years gone. i highly suggest that you listen to more songs before you judge them, and watch there live videos.
Led Zepplin sucks only because everyone talks WAY too much about them and make them WAY too overrated. and no one talks about any of their other songs other then Stair way to Heaven. which will make anyone sick of hearing about it
I don't take the hype surrouding Led Zeppelin seriously anymore. If Jimmy Page had farted on tape in 1969 people would be talking about it today as arguably the greatest and most influential fart in rock history.
To the guy who said "Ok I admit that not all of there songs are great but there is no album that has absolutley 100% awesome songs on it," check out Who's Next. The whole album is solid from start to finish, 9 incredible smash hits. Now, as for Zeppelin itself, I don't much care for them myself. Do I think they're overrated? Definitely. Do I like them? No. Would I take them over today's music? Almost certainly. This whole argument is pretty pointless, though, I must say, since it's going in circles and nobody's going to change anyone else's mind. I personally agree with the original poster, I think they're overrated.
so basically ur all tools. teh end.
SLIPKNOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
It seems to me that Led Zeppelin's music is about the sounds itself, not the meaning behind it.
LZ rarely ever went into anything beyond their standard formula; 'relationship fails > i get drunk and look for ass > occasionally I talk about myself > sometimes I lay out hate on women and act sexist > let me fake orgasms over and over to heighten the effect'
A band like (70's)Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, Focus, or Hawkwind was pressing more than just 'sex overtones'.
It was about social reform, political changes. The darkness of the outside world at the time. It had atmosphere, depth, meaning, purpose, and resolve. The styles ranged from spacey guitar musings to blues-inspired jams to folk-reminescent jingles.
LZ kept presenting the same 'blunt' sound over and over; they could be playing in any sound studio around the world and you'd never know what images are in their heads, if any.
Their music is about getting drunk and having sex. Maybe about hating women, but more or less about having sex or being an angry young man who can't get any.
Look at an album like Animals; it has solid rock ballads with ethereal presence, and Gilmour's ghostly tone, all presenting instance after instance of society's sick perversions.
LZ never touched on anything remotely spiritual or 'deep'. Know what the 'Houses of the Holy' really is? It's a street in Louisiana that was notorious for whorehouses. And 'No Quarter' literally means just that --- having no place to stay and no money to spend. That's pretty damned shallow, I'm sorry to say.
Put down your republican rock and embrace the depth the other talents of the era had to offer.
ok my name is scott and the doors are the most under rated band there who first record is amazing i think it is one of the best records ever in my book it is up there with dark side of the moon let it be the jimi hendrix expirence but thats my say peace
oo yea and tell i want one person to tell me a great band of the 70's that wasnt on drugs for all u ppl sayin that pink floyd was a druggy band obvously they went into incredibly bad drugs cause all them r still alive
Holy crap. I can't believe someone here said that they didn't want to listen to Led Zeppelin because they didn't want to be in the "poser" group. I hope to god you don't say this and then go listen to My Chemical Romance and The Used while wearing girl pants. Seriously, listening to Led Zeppelin does not make you a poser. It makes you someone who has a good taste in music. You can dislike Led Zeppelin's music all you want, I listen to them because John Paul Jones was one of the best bassist, and musicians, of all time. Guitarists listen to Zeppelin for Page, Drummers for Bonzo, singers for Plant. Hell, some people just like the music, which I can't blame them. You see, for some people Led Zeppelin is more about the talent then the music. You can say their songs suck all you want, but if you want to say they suck you need to take anouther listen to some of their songs.
ok i am not trying to piss anybody off...
buuuut...Led Zeppelin really ARE one of the greatest bands of all time. their talent is AMAZING and their songwriting is awesome too. i am a guitarist...guess who my hero is? Jimmy Page. If people think they suck then oh well. but if people that have only heard "stairway" think they suck, then screw them. they need to listen to the REAL Led Zeppelin and maybe theyll appreciate it more. Jimmy Page is the 2nd greatest guitarist of ALL TIME....right behind Eddie Van Halen. John Bonham is one of the best drummers. John Paul Jones was the best musician out of the whole band because he could not only play the bass but the keyboard, mandolin, and more. Robert Plant's vocals will never be matched and are absolutely amazing. Without Led Zep hard rock and metal would not be the same today. Slash, lead guitarist from Guns N' Roses, one of his BIGGEST influences was Jimmy Page. Even one of Kurt Cobain's biggest influences were Led Zeppelin. Guns N' Roses and Nirvana both turned out to be 2 of the greatest bands of hard rock and metal. What does that tell you?
I LOVE Pink Floyd to death. my favorite movie (besides waynes world) is The Wall. I am soooooo not making pink floyd any less than they should be. they are a great band. BUT i DONT think that Pink Floyd can be or should be compared to Led Zeppelin. They are 2 total different types of music. Pink Floyd was better at album selling or what not. But Led Zeppelin had wayyy more talent. These 2 bands rock my ass off but i dont like that they are being compared. they are unique and great. This is just my opinion, but take it into consideration.

another point i forgot to bring up...
Since John Bonham died in 1980, Led Zeppelin will never be able to show their full potential.
Just like Nirvana. Since Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994, you will never be able to see what Nirvana could have really done.
Led Zep gave it their all, but if Bonzo didnt die, we will never be able to see what they could have really done.
