The Quagmire describes my mind -- full of random bits of things all stuck together -- these things may include, but are not limited to: music, TV, movies, writing, reading, theatre, politics, religion, whatever.

Family Guy Jumps The Shark

Yes, it's happened. A show that was clever and witty, if not original has jumped the shark. I specifically point to the extended musical number with Stewie that was coupled with an old live-action dancer (Gene Kelly?). It was boring, contrived, and irrelevant.

To be funny you have to have a point of some sort or be going somewhere. I suppose Monty Python is proof I'm not totally right on this theory. But it doesn't change the fact the Shark Has Been Jumped.

It pains me to say it, but Family Guy's time has passed. It's over. Stick a fork in it, it's done. A few funny moments don't make a good show. They've stopped being creative and are relying solely on pop-culture references which simply isn't enough. And the episode really sucked.

Not that you care, but I posted a survey about me as a bulletin on MySpace while I was waiting for Blogger to update. And I ate a tube of Smarties. Yay.

The dancer's name is Gene Kelly, you stupid fucking moron, the most famous tap dancer this side of and it's from a 1940s movie called "Anchors Aweigh" that had Jerry from "Tom & Jerry" in Stewie's place, except the animation was ALOT better in teh 1940s version. The Family Guy animators are lazy assholes. Look, you can even see Jerry's reflection on the ground.

By the way, Family Guy always sucked.

I have to say I found the scene a wonderful homage the its original. Yes I do agree it was somewhat sloppy to have left Jerry's shadow on the ground but it's a minor detail. If you watch the scenes side by side, they did manage to mimic step for step(minus tail flicks) the entire dance Jerry did with Gene Kelly.
Considering Faliy Guy's propensity for putting Stewie and Brian through situations making homage to the road films of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, this is just another one of those moments. It was Stewie dancing in the middle of a story involving Brian and Stewie. Perfectly valid, not a shark jump. Hell...a show that goes as far ion tasteless humour as Family Guy does can never officially jump the shark....it's too ridiculous as it is.

I disagree that Family Guy jumped the shark with that bit; I'll happily admit to laughing in delight when I saw it. I figured they were going to do yet another song and dance, but the actual bit was unexpected and amusing (to me).

I'm not going to attack and berate you for not recognizing the source of the bit, since that's uncalled for, and, also, I didn't recognize it (or notice Jerry's shadow). Such an attack, especially from someone professing to not even like the show that essentially is inciting the attack, can only be the work of a stupid fucking moron. Then again, welcome to the internet.

wow are you kidding that was one of the funniest episodes ive seen. cutaways and pop culture references are what make the show great and if you don't like that then just shutup and don't watch it. by the way it takes a lot of time and money to even get the rights to the gene kelly bit, and then doing that full animation with stewie on a television budget? whoever made this initial comment should just shut the hell up
