Ray Ferraro on the Flame's slump ...

TSN.ca: FERRARO: HERE'S WHAT WRONG WITH THE FLAMES

    1) Their centre ice position is a mess. (...) Olli Jokinen has not had any consistency and for $5 million plus, 10 goals are not nearly enough. The Flames can't seem to find the proper set of wingers for him.

    3) If you are paying $5 million for a defenceman to have two goals after 50 games, you're overpaying big time. Jay Bouwmeester has two - after back to back years with 15 goals. ...

Except Bo is getting almost $7M, not $5M.

Sutter screwed up big time. Well, both Sutters did. Phaneuf is hating the situation in Calgary and he has every right. This guy should have been tagged as the team's number one d-man, but they put him as secondary when they signed Jay Bo. Jay Bo is not being used too properly either. I never see the guy jump on the offense as much as he was allowed in Florida. So no, it's not because of the SE Division being easier. It's that he needs to have a loose leash where he can skate offensively as well. His goals don't come from big slap shots, like Phaneuf's, but from being closer to the net and usually they are wristers.

Flames should have saved the $7M to get a scoring winger, not Jay Bo. They completely ruined the team's chemistry.

As for Olli, it's a team that struggles as a whole. I wouldn't blame him, Langkow, or anyone. It's a team issue. Olli reacts well to coaches that push him to be an offensive force, not with coaches that lecture him on defensive plays and keeping the game simple. That's why he did not see eye to eye with Jacques, and not seeing eye to eye with Sutter. Olli does well with the likes of Keenan, Torts.... those kinds.

I don't mind Olli. I still want to see him do well. But Jay Bo? I'm overjoyed he is sucking big time in Calgary so that Canada can see how this "great d-man" actually sucks.

You're flawlessly accurate on this. He's not the only player like this. It's how he was coached as he was young, I suspect. As you, I like Olli and have no ill will towards him.

Happy Dance of Agreement.

Thirding what 101 & darsys said.

Has the "But Jay Bo's development was hurt by the lack of good coaching in FL!" whining & excuse-making started yet? I'm surprised I haven't seen more of that yet, but then again, I haven't been paying much attention lately. :\

If anything he is lacking coaching in Calgary. Florida developed his offensive game where it should have been at for a guy that has a weak shot in the first place. His defensive game is average and Canadians thought that was Florida's fault of lack of defensive support for him. He doesn't hit. Doesn't play the body. His size makes one think that he would, at least, play the body and shield the net better, but he has never done that. Now that he has been playing on a team where defense is their forte, they don't understand his so-so defensive play and his lack of scoring production. Terrible coaching on Sutter's part there.

Amazing. Last night i was so furious. I was watching the Nucks and Sabres game and they talked about Luongo's record against the Sabres being something like 8-7-? with a 1.99 GAA and they mentioned how he received no offensive support and how Florida probably expected to see his offensive support too.

I mean, terrible and unfair, and unprofessional. "Bobby Lu" as they so womanly called him there, made himself look like such a victim in Florida. Disgusting. The arguments i had with Nucks fans over Luongo was not even about his game, but mostly about how he was treated and not respected and so on. Luongo added fuel to the fire too by saying stuff that we probably don't know.

Whatever. It's in the past. I just wish we had a better return for "Bobby Lu", but how could anyone be upset with their goalie being 2nd overall in the NHL in SV%?

And "Andy" Anderson and the Avalanche (sounds like a 50s rock band, eh?) have made it to the first round. I'm happy for him.
